Smoky blinked his eyes and twitched his tail as he watched the curtain flap in the breeze. He lifted his front paw and licked it, then cleaned off the last bit of dinner from his whiskers. Smoky stepped gingerly over the spooky looking mat by the back door, then froze. A hand slowly pulled back the curtain and a gravelly voice cackled, "A black cat, run for your life!" Smoky arched his back and puffed up his fur. He swished his tail twice, then sprang at the curtain, disappearing through the opening.

Ooh! Spooky, Nancy! And funny that Smoky appears to be running away from himself :) You have captured cat behavior delightfully - I can see Smoky perfectly! Thanks so much for joining in the Halloweensie fun! :)

Cute story! I love the images of the cat, being a cat lover myself. :-) I can just see him. But where did he spring off to, I wonder? :-) Nice job!

This is lots of fun...and pretty scary. I wanted the story to keep going...too bad we had a 100 word limit.:)

Great story. I wouldn't cross the mat or spring into the curtain. :)

This reminds me of a nightmare I had once where I was being attacked by a cat! So scary!

You must have a cat-- it's not just anyone who knows the art of cleaning the last bit of dinner off the whiskers!

Oh! I like that the cat scares herself. It is real funny and so true sometimes.

I saw "The Monkey's Paw" as a teenager and never forgot the scare. That hand at the curtain reminded me of it!
